Los Angeles-based independent distributor Radial Entertainment has acquired all rights to the upcoming sci-fi feature Signal One, Variety has learned exclusively.
The deal, finalized on Monday, positions Radial as the sole worldwide distributor for the film, which is directed by rising talent Kai Mercer and produced by Horizon Films. While financial terms remain undisclosed, sources close to the project confirm that the acquisition was completed following a competitive bidding process involving multiple studios.
Signal One follows the story of a reclusive astrophysicist who intercepts a mysterious signal from deep space, only to uncover a chilling conspiracy that threatens humanity. The film stars Oscar-nominee Elena Vasquez in the lead role, alongside rising actors Daniel Wu and Priya Kapoor, marking one of the first lead roles for each in a major sci-fi production.
“This is a project we’ve been tracking for over a year,” said Radial Entertainment CEO James Holloway in a statement. “The blend of intellectual intrigue, high-stakes suspense, and emotional depth makes it a perfect fit for our slate. We’re confident this film will resonate with both genre fans and general audiences.”
Radial plans to roll out an aggressive marketing campaign ahead of Signal One’s release in late 2026, with a focus on international expansion and digital engagement. The company has also secured early partnerships with key streaming platforms for ancillary rights, though theatrical distribution remains its primary strategy.
Mercer, known for his work on the critically acclaimed short film Static (2023), described the project as “a love letter to classic sci-fi, but with a modern edge.” He added that the film’s production faced delays due to logistical challenges in securing advanced visual effects technology, a common hurdle in high-concept genre films.
With Radial’s track record in launching breakout hits such as The Last Horizon (2024) and Echo Protocol (2025), industry analysts view the acquisition as a strategic move to bolster its presence in the sci-fi genre. Further details about distribution dates and promotional activity are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
